Sweet Willows Creamery

“Because no one is ever unhappy when ordering ice cream.” If you ask the owner of Sweet Willows Creamery Brent Lebouitz why he opened an ice cream store that is likely what he will tell you. It becomes quickly evident the passion that Brent has for his business, ice cream, and making people smile.

The inside of Sweet Willows Creamery is whimsically decorated with children in mind. Fun house mirrors, old time candy and coloring pages keep the kids smiling. In fact, after ordering children are often given a token to put in a slot. Once deposited it usually takes a few moments for them to realize that they have sent an overhead train into motion.

The ice cream at Sweet Willows is all made on-site from fresh, unique, quality ingredients.

After making the ice cream base on-site Brent blends in the ingredients that make Sweet Willows’ ice cream so special. The selection changes daily with an ever-varying array of creative flavors such as Best Chillin Nilla Batter (cake batter and nilla wafers), Morning After (cappuccino and coffee cake) or Pumpkin Red Raspberry Swirl.

Here Brent fills a quart of Vanilla Peanut Butter Swirl with Chocolate Chunk that he had just finished making.

In addition to the ice cream flavors Sweet Willow also offers Frozen Yogurt, No Sugar Added Ice Cream, Sherbet and Sorbets.

Sweet Willows also offers a variety of specialty ice cream treats such as Sundaes, Banana Splits, Shakes and Malts, Belgian Waffles, a selection of toppings and their one and only Willownator.

The Willownator is six scoops of ice cream, toppings, a whole banana, chocolate and rainbow jimmies, and peanuts. If you can finish the Willownator on site, without help you get to have your picture added to the Willownator Hall of Fame.

Not quite ready for the Willownator, this guy simply opts for a scoop of vanilla on a cone.

Sweet Willows Creamery’s selection isn’t limited to merely ice cream. Their Sandwich Shoppe menu offers a variety of choices.

Pictured here is a Hawaiian Ham and Swiss Melt (Ham and Melted Swiss Cheese with Pineapple on a hot pretzel roll).

For a different spin on Bar-B-Que you can try Brent’s Big Bad BBQ Panini which is seasoned rare roast beef, BBQ sauce, onions and provolone that is sealed with a hot panini.
Each day Sweet Willows features a homemade soup of the day (which is shown on their website’s calendar) and has cup of soup and half sandwich specials.

Pictured here is a Ham and Cheese Croissant: ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, honey mustard on a toasted croissant.

There is also a selection of wraps like this Ranch Turkey Wrap which is smoked turkey, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and ranch dressing on a tomato wrap.
But regardless, at Sweet Willows Creamery, it is still all about the ice cream and the smiles. With as many interesting choices as Sweet Willow offers, it may be hard not to share.

And if you are having a hard time getting to Sweet Willows, you can bring Sweet Willows to you with their Willow Ship. The Willow Ship is an ice cream parlor on wheels that can come to your party or corporate event. Check out their website for more details.

The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar

The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar continues to bring big city dining to York, Pennsylvania. Voted best overall restaurant in Central Pennsylvania Magazine’s “Best of Central Pa” reader survey 2005-2007.

While designed after a Parisian restaurant by its previous owner and even deriving its name from La Rive Gauche (The Left Bank) of the river Seine in Paris, The Left Bank’s cuisine is much more eclectic.

The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009The bar area has a bit more of a cosmopolitan feel than the seating area, but the patrons were quick to point out how the Left Bank feels like a slice of New York stuck onto North George Street — York.
The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009The menu features fusion dishes like this Terriyaki Crusted Seared Yellowfin Tuna which is served with wasabi ginger buttered pad thai noodles, wok fired wakame seaweed & vegetables and firecracker.

Other entrees include such offerings as a Maple Dijon Glazed & Grilled Salmon Fillet, a Sauteed Petite Filet Mignon & Lump Crab Scampi and an Amaretto Chicken & Penne Pasta Saute.

There also is a lunch menu that includes a variety of sandwiches as well as lunch entrees. Sandwiches will be familiar with a Left Bank spin and the lunch entrees will be similar to the dinner entrees with a few alternative selections.

The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009Executive Chef and Owner David Albright credits the Left Bank’s success to his staff. After 10 years in business, over half his staff has been with him over 7 years. These are numbers that are unheard of in the restaurant business and serves to credit not only the staff themselves but the management and customers as well.

David strives to have his staff create a memorable dining experience for their patrons with each and every visit. He wants the restaurant to be a source for top rate food and atmosphere, but without the pretenses.

The Left Bank Restaurant and Bar, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009The restaurant has a literary theme running through it with its shelves full of books. In fact the bill is even brought out at the end of your meal in a book that is especially picked for you by your server. What will your book say about your personality? Only a trip to The Left Bank will tell.

Bourbon Street Saloon – York

Bourbon Street Saloon, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009Among the restaurants within Kamionko Entertainment’s ever evolving restaurant portfolio is the Bourbon Street Saloon. There’s not much to tie this place to its Louisiana namesake other than being a good place to drink, have a good time and grab some pub grub, but then again, how many bars in New Orleans are exactly like this one? Plenty.

The interior is modest yet nicely appointed, with large sofas in the foyer for those who prefer to lounge.
Bourbon Street Saloon, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009The food is distinctly American bar food but with a homemade touch. Their wing sauce is made from scratch. Unlike most, it is not a vinegar-based sauce, but it is full of flavor. Their Suicide Wings are so hot that if you can finish a plate, you get your picture taken and put on the wall. At the time of this posting, there was only one picture on the wall. And I can tell you from personal experience, these babies are made from fresh peppers and are hot!

The menu claims that this Saloon serves the “Best Burgers in York!” of which they have 15 varieties, like this straightforward Bacon Cheeseburger. Some of the other varieties include Bourbon Burger (Grilled Onions, Cheese, Thousand Island, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Sweet Pickle), Rodeo Burger (BBQ Sauce, Onion Rings), Western Burger (Sour-Dough Bread, Grilled Onions, Cheese), and Italian Burger (Pepperoni, Mozzarella Cheese, Pizza Sauce).

One word of caution, though: the Saloon’s hours are limited. As of this writing, they are only open Wednesday – Sunday evenings, and their website did not detail this.

Agrodolce

Agrodolce Restaurant, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009 North George Street in York has been going through a transformation. It began with the constuction of the new Soveriegn Bank Stadium, which houses the newly formed Atlantic League York Revolution baseball team. On the heels of the ballpark’s construction came the ultra-modern, sexy-chic building that houses Agrodolce. The inside follows form with a simple yet elegant decor.

In Italian, agrodolce means “sweet and sour” so you know that this restaurant’s menu is inspired by Italian cuisine, but French techniques and ingredients are also a big part of what they do.

Owner John Roeder is a York native, and after graduating from the Yorktown Culinary Institute, he went on to work at some of the area’s finest restaurants before finally deciding to break out on his own.

John created Agrodolce from the ground up, including a wood burning oven in the build-out specs. In this oven, the Agrodolce team bakes their gourmet pizzas, as well as a selection of artisan breads.

Wild Tuna

Wild Tuna Restaurant, York Pennsylvania © Susqueats.com 2009 When Wild Tuna took over the building that was formerly a Cheeseburger in Paradise chain restaurant, they changed the sign out front but not much else. The decor they inherited is anything but typical, with thatched roof structures, painted oars, fake palm trees and bamboo throughout. And yet somehow – it works.

Wild Tuna is the brain child of restaurateur Zu Wang Zhang, who also owns two Japanese steak houses in the Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg areas.
